Yoga For Punks 2022
Hello dear friends,
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get the fuck out of 2021 and start the new year strong. To that end I’m doing a few things. First, I am challenging you, the reader of this particular newsletter, to sit in meditation every single day of 2022. This might sound like a daunting task, but I’m going to make it really, really easy for you and the benefits you will receive…well, you’ll see. Consistent effort will make a huge difference in your life. The good news is we don’t need much time, and we don’t need a super fancy practice. All you really need is 10-15 minutes a day, some lungs to breathe with, and an ass to sit on. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is as follows:
In the morning, before you’ve opened a single email or text message, find a quiet place. Set a timer for 10-15 minutes. Sit up in a tall, but relaxed manner. You might enjoy sitting on a cushion, or in a chair. Next, soften your gaze, and breathe in through the nose, and out through the nose. Take a handful of exaggerated, deep breaths, then allow your breathing to find its own rhythm. Now, just breathe. Take a breath in, then a breath out. Repeat. That’s it. If you find yourself doing something other than breathing (i.e. fidgeting or thinking about what you have to get done that day) simple smile, and return to breathing. Easy peasy.
Next, if you’d like to establish and/or get back into a physical yoga practice, might I recommend Yoga for Punks. We have a brand new course called Yoga For Punks Part 2 launching January 1st. It’s 31 days of 10 minute practices, which you can do whenever you’d like. All content is prerecorded and yours to keep forever. All levels welcome. If you haven’t done Yoga For Punks Part 1 you can still do part 2, or, better yet, you can pick up both classes in a sweet bundle deal or the bonus mega-rad bundle that includes a private session with me!
Lets do some quick math- 10 minutes meditation + 10 minutes yoga = 20 minutes of daily practice. Do this every day for a year and watch your whole life change for the better. Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha means yoga calms the fluctuations of the mind. Believe me, the world needs some calm minds and moments of silence. Make time for your own calm and silence.
May all beings be happy and free. And may 2022 kick the shit out of 2021 (the bar is pretty low).
Bowing,
Miguel
