Single Tasking
Hello dear friends!
I’m back after a short paternity leave to welcome my new son Nolan to the world! Lots of stuff in the works, including a new book proposal being shopped around, a new TBR record almost fully written and a new Yoga For Punks instagram account where I’ll be adding new content regularly and hosting guest teachers periodically. It seems I have a lot going on which makes today’s topic particularly relevant. Today I want to talk about: single-tasking.
We’ve been fed the multi-tasking curriculum our entire lives and it’s done exactly one thing: made us busy. I don’t know about you, but producing for the sake of producing, being busy for the sake of being busy…it all seems like a game I don’t want to play anymore. I’m going all in on single-tasking-that is doing one thing at a time. If our goal is to be productive there are plenty of studies showing that we are in fact more productive when we do one thing at a time. Our goal however, is much deeper than that. Our goal is to be connected, to be present and to have some sort of peace of mind. Multi-tasking makes all of that very difficult, if not just straight up fucking impossible. Wouldn’t it be better to do one thing/day with our entire being than to do 10,000 things and not be connected to or aware of any of them? Me thinks so. So with the spirit of single-tasking in mind, I invite you to go into your week, however busy it might seem, and commit to doing exactly one task at a time. Give it your full focus, and when it’s over, move on. Your life is going to pass by whether you’re crazy busy and stressed or calm and happy. Wouldn’t you rather be the latter?
high-fives, hugs, bowing, all the good stuff,
M
